Avoid Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3

May 19, 2008

in OS, Security, Windows Update

Stay away from the service pack 3 for now. There are already numerous posts on the internet regarding problems with the new service pack. Why? People blindly or dangerously performing these tasks early in the release.

It is not uncommon to hear of people experience fatal problems, corruptions, auto reboots, and the blue-screen-of-death. Just patiently wait it out. If you are performing Windows Updates regularly remove the check mark from the SP3 item for installation. If you get the yellow exclamation point in the system tray, ignore it for another month.

In St. Louis and Saint Charles we have already performed three separate incidences of this issue that required computer repair.
