On the social horizon of Web 2.0 Twitter is about as hot as it gets right now. It seems all Gen X and Y are abound with Twitter. Admittedly, this a fun ride and makes good business sense if your business maintains any form of an on-line presence.
However, are your apostles SPAMbots or qualified subscribers truly interested in your product?
There is no correct answer to this question, but is worth monitoring your Twitter account. A good analogy I relate to Twitter are magazine subscriptions. You subscribe because you like the magazine.
I follow numerous accounts on Twitter and view them daily on my computer. Twitter is a network of likes and dislikes connected by the all mighty follow. To follow or not to follow, that is the question. Parts of Twitter, in my opinion, are broken and need repair.
The management at Twitter are certainly buried with things to do. However, if something isn’t addressed within the near future it is almost predictable Twitter will pass as a fad just as the Pet Rock did in the 70′s. If you have never heard of the Pet Rock, trust me, you don’t want to know. Just move on.
Some of the followers we have attained are nothing more than SPAMbots. This leads to yet one more thing we have to manage. The social world comes with the “Dark Side” too. About five percent of our follows are SPAMbots. We are VERY selective of those who follow us on Twitter. If it is a SPAMbot, then we block the follower.
Our Twitter account is not an Earth Moving house of media and influence. Our Twitter presence is small, humble, and meek. However, our followers are truly interested in the material we post. A good amount of content we post on Twitter is referral based to another provider of information. One side note, we do shoot a small editorial from time-to-time on certain issues.
Our Twitter and BLOG presence is not a feeble attempt at journalism. It is an avenue to put out our doings and industry happenings with a regional focus if at all possible. We gaff here and there, but overall the feedback is positive. God knows there are enough BLOGs on the planet with GURUs of all sorts proclaiming the “the top 5″ of this and that. How are we supposed to the know the top number of any specific topic?
It is our hope our small number of followers are qualified followers of sincere interest and not attempting to hock a sale or two. Our content is both Saint Louis and St Charles based, but also topics that affect the industry of technology, network and computers.
If you feel our BLOG and Twitter accounts are broke, please tell us how to repair it.
Thanks and happy reading!
