U.S. Senator Kit Bond of Missouri made a statement that a cyber attack on the United States is the equivalent to an attack on Pearl Harbour.
Senator Bond’s bill relaxes one both Sen. Lierberman and Sen. Susan Collins co-sponsored. Their bill would appoint a cyber czar giving the president unprecedented powers to “pull the plug” on your Internet connection.
Senator Bond’s bill would place a buffer between Congress and the President. The buffer would consist of a voluntary, public-private partnership facilitating the “flow of information about cyber threats.”
The Bond-Hatch bill appoints one person who possesses the authority to coordinate efforts throughout the federal government. The Senate must confirm an individual that is accountable to Congress and reports to the President.
