Two satellites, Russian and USA, collided creating more debris in space. Space debris is a growing concern as more commercial and governmental satellites are deployed.
Space waste are materials or remains leftover from satellites that are no longer operational or are destroyed by the governing owner or host country of the satellite . The heavenly body around the globe is crowded and organizations are now tracking known obsolete and operational satellites.
On February 11, 2009, the deactivated Kosmos-2251 spacecraft collided with the operational Iridium 33 satellite, resulting in the destruction of both spacecraft. It is believed this collision is the first collision of this kind.
