Suspect Caught By Owner Of Stolen Goods Via EBay

in News, Security, computer

Two St. Charles County, MO men recently had propellers stolen from their boats.   They were searching EBay on their computer for replacement propellers and found propellers listed that were starkly similar to their stolen property. The owners,  Mike Bullock and Matthew Hahn, of the propellers initiated separate communications with the seller asking the seller about the equipment.  The seller responded stating the items were sold.

This lead to the reporting and recovery of the equipment.  The alleged seller of the stolen equipment has been charged accordingly.

Lessened learned, use caution with all transactions on EBay and similar listings services.  This is true particularly with Craigslist.  It is a violation with both services for the seller and purchaser to communicate directly outside of the service.  NEVER purchase goods when the seller sends email directly to you.  This raises suspicians and there is no recovery measure should become a vicitim of fraud.  The services provide protection in such cases.
