A recent report measures the usage of mobile phones and claims Apple’s iPhone sales are down as Android based phones blaze past the iPhone sales.  Precisely Apple is in third place and Android phones are now in first.

I could go down the path of harping on Apple and it’s closed and proprietary business practices.  However, that is not too much off my point.  There is no doubt Apple is the leader in niche of market/sector creation, but the company will always position in the down due to the arrogance of one Steve Jobs.

Verizon Wireless continues to aggressively push the Android based line partnering with Motorola by offering a full line of “Droid” phones.*  An internal Verizon Wireless strategy for 2010-2011 that has leaked provides details for an Android 3, Android tablets,  and Android Apps galore.  Apple needs to use its computer and head on over to Verizon Wireless and figure out how to repair it’s problem.

As Bette Davis once said “Fasten your seatbelt, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.”

Apple’s name needs inserting between the words “your” and “seatbelt.”

Apple is in a bind and faces the balancing act of image versus bottom-line.  Steve Jobs insists the phone is okay.  Yet statistically seven to ten percent of paying customers are complaining about the phone dropping.

It seems the left-handed are mostly affected by the debacle.  Weeks have passed and Steve Jobs continues to live in a fantasy world.  This takes me back to the early nineties.  Canon’s mantra was “image is everything.”

Apple should take a bit of advice from Andre and improve its image (excluding the mullet and wig).  The way Apple has managed itself is surprising considering the company has always been an innovator of new segments within technology.  It is as Apple has gone Microsoft’s way putting profit before product.

Apple will take a slight dent from the iPhone 4, but it certainly will prove short lived.  The “death-grip” is fixed by Apple offering a free band-aid antenna guard.  Apple so far is resisting a recall.  This would prove expensive and would certainly not make the stockholders happy.  However, Apple built it’s empire on high-quality products and this seems contrary to the integrity of Apple.

Apple announced at the time of this post insanely large profits for the third fiscal quarter of 2010.  Profits are up 78%.  It doesn’t appear Steve Jobs will lose sleeping over that figure.  That figure should support a recall to repair the iPhone 4.

The phone is cool and has some nice features.  What am I writing about?  You should know by now.  If not then get with the program.  The technical world of journalism is totally goo-goo over this thing.  I believe in capitalism 100% and nothing is wrong with this phone.  I opted for the Droid and from the looks of it this phone is close to the Droid in functionality.

Journalists have spent the past two weeks hyping up the  Nexus One phone by Google.  The phone that is a computer, phone, and everything else imaginable.  It even walks on water.   If there was a technology news site it was reporting about the Nexus One PC Phone.  The over reporting of the phone is the problem.  First reports were “shhhh, Google employees are testing some new phone.”  Next “we think a new phone is on the way by Google.  Last, “Yeeehaa! Google is announcing next week.”

Before the official launch, the journalists were already reporting technical specifications, who was manufacturing it, and when it was being announced.  I have always wondered why there is an official launch for any product if journalists know everything about the product before the announcement.  One benefit is obviously the marketing.  The more buzz the less capital is needed for advertising.

The irony about this article is I am reporting about it too.  OK, Google wins again.

The Town and Country, MO (St. Louis County, MO) board of alderman shot down a bill introducing a ban on cell phone usage while driving  before it was even allowed for a vote.  Alderman John Hoffmann attempted to introduce the well publicized proposal.

This issue is not based on socialism.  It is for saving lives.  The irony is seat belts are mandatory.  Per this logic one would think that cell phone usage while driving should be limited to hands-free usage only.

Alderman Hoffman stated he had the issue floating in his computer while it was under development.  This issue and Town & Country’s position needs repairing.  This is the business of the people and not the security of the politician’s future.
