The idea of an electric car is not new, but putting it to reality is coming soon to a dealer near you. Alternative fuel is the key to both the United States security and independence from foreign fuel sources. Chevrolet introduced the Volt at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show. The volt is still in concept, but the method of power is conceivably a reality.
The car has a range of 40 miles from the batteries in the car. Commuters typically live within this radius back and forth to work. The car also has an on-board engine that is not used as hybrid cars use. The engine does not power the drive train directly. It runs solely to charge the batteries. The engine is powered by fossil fuel (gas). The fuel powers the engine and provides a range over six hundred miles or 80+ miles to the gallon.
